Classic Hatha Week: Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! As we complete the month of March, our week’s practice will involve “Classic Hatha”: Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow!!! Thus, the physical practice will emphasize Vinyasa Flow, Power, Balance, and Fluid movement. The Sanskrit focus is AUM Laghu Bhavam, which is a mantra for invoking the energy of “lightness”, or “having the quality of space”. It affirms that our essential nature is lightness itself. Our supporting mudra is the grounding mudra for promoting stability, and connection. The meditation focus will be “Lightness”, and you may listen to Michael Hoppe’s “Starlight” music, while contemplating.

We look forward to a very busy April with the following activities: 4/7-Yoga for Grief, 1-3 p.m., with Sophie, $25, 4/9-4/30-Ayurvedic Yoga, 5-6 p.m., for four consecutive Monday evenings, with Sophie, $129, and Deb is currently taking registrants for her next Meditation I series, which meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Please contact the studio via email, phone, or drop-in to pre-pay and register for these events. Wall Work!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! It is time for our Spring Schedule, which begins today, March 19 and extends through June 17!!! The Class Schedule remains exactly as it was for the Winter Schedule. However, we have many new, and upcoming events, so check them out below!!!

This week’s practice is “Wall Work”!!! We will return our mats to the wall baseboard, and utilize this wonderful prop as a tool of resistance, alignment, and focus. Our Sanskrit focus is “Bandha”, or energy lock, of which there are three. The root, core, and chin lock. They help maintain our energy flow through the spine, and prevent loss of energy from the body during our asana practice. Our hand gesture (mudra) is the “Ushas”, which connects us “to all things good”!!! The meditation focus is “Be Present”, and the accompanying music for your contemplative practice is the Karma Mudra Chant by Deva & Miten. This week’s practice will give you an energy and power boost.

Our Spring Equinox Drum Circle is Sunday, March 25th, from 5-6 p.m. Bring a friend and a rhythm instrument (or borrow one from Deb). This event is FUN and FREE!!!

Sophie’s Yoga for Grief workshop will Saturday, April 7th, from 1-3 p.m. The cost is $25, and is filling quickly. Call or email the studio to register for your attendance. yogaforlife06@verizon.net or 951-676-8285.

Our annual Yoga-Hike to the Santa Rosa Plateau will be Friday, April 27th, from 11:30-1:30. Carol will guide our hike, and I will lead the Yoga practice. Bring your lunch, hiking shoes, water, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. This event is FREE other than your parking fee payable to the Visitor Center. Register at the studio.

It will be another great week at YFL, and as always, we can’t wait to see you on the mat!!!—Namaste’, Deb

Triple “R” Week: Restore, Renew, and Relax!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! Happy Monday and Day Light Savings Time!!! We worked very hard last week, so this week we will be focusing on deep stretching with prop assistance with our restorative practice: restore, renew, and relax!!! Our Sanskrit focus is another one of the eight limbs of yoga, “Pratyahara”, or to withdraw from external stimuli, and connect with  our body via the breath. Literally “going out of our minds”, and into our bodies!!! :-)!!! Our hand gesture or mudra is the Dhanya, or meditation mudra to evoke the parasympathetic nervous system, and a deeper state of contemplation. Our meditation focus is to “Lighten Up”, and our music for meditation is provided by Tom Barabas from his Nuage CD, “Clouds”.

Our Spring Equinox Drum Circle will be on Sunday, March 25th, from 5-6 p.m., and it is FREE!!! Bring a rhythm instrument, and a friend!!!

Sophie is offering the her workshop the Yoga of Grief on Saturday, April 7th, from 1-3 p.m., and the cost is $25. Contact Deb at YFL to register. 951-676-8285, or yogaforlife06@verizon.net.

Let’s Weight Together!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! Last week was all about flow, and this week is all about power, stability, and  strength, as we bear our own body weight, and add to that the use of hand weights. So “Let’s Weight Together” is our theme. Our Sanskrit focus is “Pranayama”, or “breath awareness and control”. The hand gesture or “mudra” for this week is the “grounding”. Our meditation focus is “Just Breathe”. The music for your daily meditation is from the Classical Piano CD for Yoga, and is entitled, “Butterfly Waltz”!!!!

Our Spring Equinox Drum Circle will gather on March 25 from 5-6 p.m. to welcome in the Spring Season. Our Spring Class schedule will commence on March 19th. I am also pleased to announce that Sophie will be offering a very important workshop on April 7th from 1-3 p.m., The Yoga and Meditation of Grief. We suffer grief in many forms and for many reasons: loss of a  loved one or friend, loss of a job, empty nest, change of location, etc. This workshop under Sophie’s guidance will explore the use of breath, yoga, and meditation techniques as coping skills for the various forms and stages of grief. The cost is jus $25. Please call or email Deb at YFL to register. yogaforlife06@verizon.net or (951) 676-8285.

It is going to be another fabulous week at YFL!!! As always, we can’t wait to see you on the mat!!!—Namaste’, Deb
