Let’s “Weigh In”!!!

Greetings from YFL, and happy April!!! Another month is complete, and we begin our second month of the Spring season!!! As we do traditionally, we kick off the new month with our weight practice, so Let’s “Weigh In” together on our mats!!! We will be sculpting, toning, and strengthening via our traditional weight bearing asanas, and add in hand weights (optional) for part of the practice. Our Sanskrit focus comes from the 21- day meditation challenge with Oprah and Deepak, “Har Haray Haree”, which activates our light of vitality, energy, and healing. The hand gesture or mudra focus for the week is “The Let it Flow”, or “Relaxation Mudra”, which promotes tension and stress release!!! The meditation focus will be “Let it Flow”, and the supporting music is Ann Sweeten’s, “A Place in the Sun”.

It is a very busy month at YFL. You should have received the monthly newsletter via email yesterday, but if not, please email a request to be placed on our Contact List, yogaforlife06@verizon.net. Classic Hatha Week: Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! As we complete the month of March, our week’s practice will involve “Classic Hatha”: Let it flow, let it flow, let it flow!!! Thus, the physical practice will emphasize Vinyasa Flow, Power, Balance, and Fluid movement. The Sanskrit focus is AUM Laghu Bhavam, which is a mantra for invoking the energy of “lightness”, or “having the quality of space”. It affirms that our essential nature is lightness itself. Our supporting mudra is the grounding mudra for promoting stability, and connection. The meditation focus will be “Lightness”, and you may listen to Michael Hoppe’s “Starlight” music, while contemplating.

We look forward to a very busy April with the following activities: 4/7-Yoga for Grief, 1-3 p.m., with Sophie, $25, 4/9-4/30-Ayurvedic Yoga, 5-6 p.m., for four consecutive Monday evenings, with Sophie, $129, and Deb is currently taking registrants for her next Meditation I series, which meets on Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Please contact the studio via email, phone, or drop-in to pre-pay and register for these events. They help maintain our energy flow through the spine, and prevent loss of energy from the body during our asana practice. Our hand gesture (mudra) is the “Ushas”, which connects us “to all things good”!!! The meditation focus is “Be Present”, and the accompanying music for your contemplative practice is the Karma Mudra Chant by Deva & Miten. Greetings from YFL!!! Happy Monday and Day Light Savings Time!!! We worked very hard last week, so this week we will be focusing on deep stretching with prop assistance with our restorative practice: restore, renew, and relax!!! Our Sanskrit focus is another one of the eight limbs of yoga, “Pratyahara”, or to withdraw from external stimuli, and connect with  our body via the breath. Literally “going out of our minds”, and into our bodies!!! :-)!!! Our hand gesture or mudra is the Dhanya, or meditation mudra to evoke the parasympathetic nervous system, and a deeper state of contemplation. Our meditation focus is to “Lighten Up”, and our music for meditation is provided by Tom Barabas from his Nuage CD, “Clouds”.

Let’s Weight Together!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! Last week was all about flow, and this week is all about power, stability, and  strength, as we bear our own body weight, and add to that the use of hand weights. So “Let’s Weight Together” is our theme. Our Sanskrit focus is “Pranayama”, or “breath awareness and control”. The hand gesture or “mudra” for this week is the “grounding”. Our meditation focus is “Just Breathe”. The music for your daily meditation is from the Classical Piano CD for Yoga, and is entitled, “Butterfly Waltz”!!!!

Our Spring Equinox Drum Circle will gather on March 25 from 5-6 p.m. to welcome in the Spring Season. Our Spring Class schedule will commence on March 19th. I am also pleased to announce that Sophie will be offering a very important workshop on April 7th from 1-3 p.m., The Yoga and Meditation of Grief. We suffer grief in many forms and for many reasons: loss of a  loved one or friend, loss of a job, empty nest, change of location, etc. This workshop under Sophie’s guidance will explore the use of breath, yoga, and meditation techniques as coping skills for the various forms and stages of grief. The cost is jus $25. Please call or email Deb at YFL to register. yogaforlife06@verizon.net or (951) 676-8285.

Give me an R, R, and another R!!! Relax, Restore, and Renew Week @ YFL!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! It is definitely time to take our 3 Rs to the mat this week!!! We had a most rigorous practice last week, and now it is time to let the body, mind, and heart Renew, Restore, and Relax!!! That is our physical focus as we practice this week. Our Sanskrit focus is Om Tat Sat, or “Thou Art That”, which indicates our intimate connection to the radiance and light of Higher Consciousness.  AUM (vibration of creation), Tat (radiance and light perceived in deep meditation), and Sat (Higher Consciousness). The mudra (hand gesture) focus is the “Ushas”, or connection to “all things good”. Such a beautiful practice for celebrating this week that focuses on LOVE. Practicing love for oneself, so that we may graciously extend the gesture to others in our lives. Happy Valentine’s Day!!!

The studio will BE CLOSED on Monday, 2/19, in observance of President’s Day. However, we are open on Friday and Saturday, 2/16 & 2/17, of the holiday weekend!!!

Let’s Weigh In!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! It’s February, and time to “Weigh In”!!! This week as we step onto the sacred space of our yoga mats, we incorporate “bearing our own body weight” and the use of hand weights. It is all about strengthening, toning, and sculpting. We will also add some new components for strengthening the knee joints to help prevent misalignment of the knee cap. Our Sanskrit focus is the Universal Salutation of “Namaste”. This beautiful term means that I honor the place in you in which the entire Universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of love, of truth, of light, and of peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, we are one. Our mudra (hand gesture) focus for the first week of February is the “Grounding Gesture”. The meditation focus in “Namaste”, and set to Thierry David’s “Zen World”.
