How about a Classic?

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!!

Welcome to Nick, our newest YFL instructor!!! He will be offering “Yoga for Teen Athletes” on Mon and Wed mornings from 6:45-7:45!!! This is the perfect yoga class for high school and college athletes, which will serve as a cross training for flexibility, strength, toning, sculpting, and relaxation. The student cost is $5 per class, or $45 for ten classes!!!

This week is Classic Hatha week for Deb’s classes!!! We will enjoy Vinyasa Power Flow!!! Our Sanskrit focus is “Prasada”, which is to sit in a state of “grace”, a gift from Source. Our hand gesture or mudra is the “Heavenly Mudra”, which promotes connection to Source and a sense of “Enlightenment”. The meditation focus is “Shanti”, or “Peace”, and is set to the music of David Lanz’s “Blue Largo”.

We had a wonderful fundraiser event for Hurricane and Earthquake relief in Texas, Florida, the Caribbean, and Mexico. We shared wonderful yoga, meditation, tea, cookies, cake, and chocolate!!! I am thrilled to announce that we raised a total of $1775: $275 to Salvation Army, $1050 to UMCOR, $100 to the Humane Society, $205 to Red Cross, and $150 to Habitat for Humanity. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your support, donations, and participation!!!

“To the Wall and Back”

Greetings from YFL!!!  This week we return “To the Wall and Back”!!! We will be utilizing the wall as our prop for resistance, alignment, strength, and stability!!! Our Sanskrit focus for the week is “Sadhana”, or the discipline of practice, and to accomplish, usually within a group setting of like-minded practitioners. The mudra focus or hand gesture is the “Let if Flow” or “Relax”. Our meditation focus will be “Let if Flow”, and is set to the beautiful music of Tom Barabas’s “Sedona Suite”…”Moon Dust”.

Next week begins the Fall Session at YFL, and I am excited to announce the addition of a new instructor at the studio. Nick Angus will be joining our teaching staff. He is a 200 hour registered instructor with Yoga Alliance, and a high school student. He will be offering “Yoga for Teen Athletes” on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 6:45-7:45 a.m. So, send your student athletes to  this wonderful cross training opportunity with Nick. His classes will begin on 9/25!!! Otherwise our schedule will remain the same.

A reminder that Sophie and I will be hosting FREE yoga and mediation, respectively, for our Hurricane Harvey and Irma Relief fundraiser this Sunday, September 24th. Yoga is 3-4 p.m., Meditation 4-4:15 p.m. We will offer tea and cookies from 4:15-4:45 p.m. We ask that you submit your donation of choice to Red Cross, UMCOR, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, etc.  Donate before the event, and just slip an anonymous donation form into our jar, so we might announce the total donation raised by our fundraiser!!!  We hope you can join this effort in supporting those in need throughout Texas and Florida!!!

Following the fundraiser event, Deb will be hosting the Fall Equinox Drum Circle!!! It is also FREE!!! Bring a rhythm instrument and a friend, and we will meditate to the sound of our drum rhythms from 5-6 p.m.!!!

The Triple Effect: Restore, Renew, and Relax!!!

Greetings from YLF!!! We worked hard last week with weight-bearing!!! This week we experience the “Triple Effect” of Restore, Renew, and Relax!!! Yes, it is “Restorative Week on the Mat”!!! Our Sanskrit focus will be “VAYU”, or “Air, Life, Breath”. It represents the energy link to Divine energy. Our mudra for the week is the “Drum Mudra” which promotes calming of the nerves, which I think we can all use with all the recent events with weather, etc. Our music for meditation is by James Hood, and entitled “Imaginary”. I suggest a meditation focus for the week of “Just Relax”.

A reminder that Sophie and I will be hosting a fundraising  Yoga and Meditation event on Sunday, September 24th, for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and Irma. We are suggesting donations to the Red Cross, but please feel free to donate to any charity of choice that will help these areas of our country recover from the devastation of these two massive storms.  We will begin with Yoga at 3 p.m., led by Sophie, and I will conduct meditation from 4-4:15 p.m. We will serve tea and cookies following the practice. I also invite you to stay for the FREE Fall Equinox Drum Circle, which will begin at 5 p.m. Bring your own rhythm instrument or borrow one from the studio, and Bring a Friend!!!

Wait for the Weight!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! This week is all about “Wait for the Weight”!!! The practice will emphasize bearing of our own body weight, and light hand weights (always optional)!!! Our Sanskrit focus is  “Hreem”, or the energy of the heart, Universal Compassion, and tapping into Higher Consciousness. Our hand gesture, or mudra, is “Grounding”. This hand gesture evokes connection, stability, and grounding. Our meditation focus is “Hreem”, or Universal Compassion, and may be focused upon listening to “Claire de Lune”.

Sophie still has a few spaces left for her Ayurvedic Transformation 4-week series for your total well-being. The cost is $99.  Start date is 9/11 at Noon. Please register via email, drop-in, or calling YFL. Deb will begin her next Intro to Yoga on 9/12 @ 7:30. We will meet for four consecutive Tuesday evenings, and the cost is $40. Please contact us to pre-register for either or both of these events.

Deb and Sophie will be hosting a fundraiser event for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Sophie will lead an hour yoga practice, Deb a 15 minute meditation, and it will be followed with tea and cookies. The time is 3-4:15 p.m. on Sunday, 9/24. We ask that you donate to Red Cross, UMCOR, or any other charity of your choice on behalf of the hurricane devastation. We thank you for your support in advance!!!

Bonus Week: Sukha-Stirha!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!! This is bonus week at YFL (5th week of the month)!!!  As a result, we add an extra theme to our monthly rotation, which will be Sukha-Stirha. This is a beautiful blending of the energy forces of Yin and Yang, or grace and power!!! Our Sanskrit focus is AUM, the primordial Sacred sound emanated at the beginning of the creation of the Universe, whose vibrational energy is a unifying and connectional force. Our supporting mudra (hand gesture) is the Dhanya for evoking Universal Energy. Our meditation focus is “Unity”, and may be focused upon with Classical Piano’s “White Dove” music selection for the week.

Sophie’s Ayurvedic Transformation four week series begins on Monday, September 11th at noon, and there is still time to register through YFL.

Deb’s Intro to Yoga begins on Tuesday, September 12th at 7:30 p.m. Call, email, or drop in to register.

YFL is CLOSED on Monday, September 4th, in observance of Labor Day.

Sophie and I will be hosting a fundraising (by donation) Yoga + Meditation class on Sunday, September 24th from 3-4:15 p.m. This is to raise funds for redress.org/Harvey or 1-800-REDCROSS/Harvey to help support the rebuilding of Texas. Following the practice we will be serving tea and cookies. If you can’t attend the practice, then please consider making a minimal $10 donation to Red Cross. We also invite you to stay for the Fall Equinox Drum Circle which is also FREE, and will begin at 5 p.m.

Classic Hatha: Back to Basics!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!!  Happy Solar Eclipse Day!!! Be safe with your eyes, and enjoy this epic event!!! I would also like to remind everyone that at 11:11 a.m. PST, there is a GLOBAL MEDITATION to promote peace and harmony throughout the world. Wherever you are take a seat or walk, and meditate for 15 minutes!!!

This week’s practice is “Back to Basics” from a perspective of Classic Hatha Yoga. The practice is well balanced with our classic warmup sequence, seated poses, a strong transitional sequence to standing, vinyasa flow, standing balances, and core work!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is “ANTAR MOUNA”, or Inner Silence, and our Mudra focus, or hand gesture is the classic “USHAS”, connecting to all things good.

Our meditation focus will be “SILENCE”, and is set to David Lanz’s “Romance of Silence”.

Sophie’s Four Week’s to a Healthy You begins on 9/11 at Noon!!! The cost is $99, and there is still time to enroll. Remember space is limited, and you don’t want to miss this opportunity to create ultimate well-being, balance, and full potential for your life.

Deb’s next Intro to Yoga four week session will begin on 9/12, and the cost is $40. Registration is ongoing!!!

Let’s Hit the Wall!!!

Greetings and Happy Monday!!!

This week is all about the “Wall”, and how to use its  many benefits of resistance!!! So, “Let’s Hit the Wall” together this week for toning, strengthening, focusing, and aligning!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is “Karuna”, or compassion. An energy that we should invest in ourselves first, and then extend to all other sentient beings.

Our mudra, or hand gesture focus for the week is the “Pran”, which helps to increase our level of vitality, reduce nervousness, and improve our vision. It also helps balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

The meditation focus for this week is “Shanti, Shanti, Shanti”, or “Peace, Peace, Peace”. This dharana may be utilized while listening to the beautiful music of Ann Sweeten, and her “Place in the Sun”.

Sophie is offering her wonderful Ayurvedic Transformation 4-weeks to a Healthier You series once again. It will begin on Monday, September 11, 2017. Class will meet from Noon-1:30 p.m. for four consecutive Monday afternoons. The cost is $99, and class size is limited. Call, email, or drop in to register ASAP. It will enable you to understand  yourself, balance your life, and realize your full potential. Flyers are available at the studio. You don’t want to miss this opportunity for positive personal transformation.

“R” x 3=Rest, Restore, and Renew!!!

Happy Full Moon…a time for deep, spiritual transformation is upon us!!! Meditate, laugh, breathe, and love!!! Share the light!!!

We have the perfect practice for the fullness of Chandra this week…Restorative!!! It is “R” x 3, which equals Rest, Restore, and Renew!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is the seed sounds or biju for the heart chakra, which is YUM,  activating peace, harmony, and love!!! Our mudra or hand gesture is “Equanimity”. While taking the mudra, and chanting YUM, coming to the realization that our hearts know what is good for us, and provides for us the basis of our actions.

Your meditation Dharana, or focal point, is “Harmony”, and is set to Kiran Murti’s “Divine Imagination”.

“Weight” a Minute, or two, or three, or 75″!!! Yes, it is “weight week”!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! It is time to start a new month, and bring summer to a conclusion!!! As we usher in the “Downward Dog Days” of summer let’s release excessive Pitta energy with a strong and powerful weight-bearing class!!! Our Sanskrit focus is “Sat Chit Ananda”, or “Existence, Consciousness, and Bliss”. We will combine our focus points with the mudra (hand gesture) “USHAS”, which connects us to the beautiful energy of “all things good”. Our meditation focus for the week is “Natural Beauty”, and will be set to the music of Deva and Miten’s Karma Sutra.

Deb begins a new five week Meditation I series tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. Registration is still open!!! Call, email, or drop-in to register PRONTO!!!

Classic Hatha Week-Flow with Power

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!! Happy Monday!!! This is Classic Hatha week as you come to your mat!!! The practice will emphasize graceful flowing movement, which is balanced with power and strength!!! The Sanskrit focus is “So Hum”, or I am. The supporting mudra (hand gesture) is the “Vitality Mudra”, which promotes increased, vital energy flow based upon deep and deliberate breathing. The meditation focus is “I am”, and may be focused upon with the classic music of “Claire de Lune”.

If you know anyone that wants to take the plunge into the transformative world of meditation, please share that Deb is beginning a new 5-week session next Tuesday, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The course will meet for five consecutive Tuesday evenings, 8/1-8/29, and the cost is $70, which includes the course manual.

To “The Wall” and Beyond!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! We have made it to another Monday, and an opportunity to practice Yoga for another week!!! This week’s theme is To “The Wall” and Beyond!!! We utilize the wall as a powerful friend of resistance, alignment, and stability. It improves our focus, power, and strength!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is “Karuna”, or the energy of compassion. Practice this focus on yourself first, so that it may then be shared within your family, circle of friends, community, region, state, nation, and the world.

Our mudra focus is the “Grounding” hand gesture, which allows to find our sense of connection and belonging.

Our meditation focus is to “Just Be”, and realize that all we have is the “Present Moment”!!! The music selected for meditation this week is David Lanz”s Cristiforis Dream.

A reminder that Deepak and Oprah began a new 21-day meditation challenge this morning. The topic is “Desire and Destiny”, and it is FREE!!!

The Three “R’s” of Yoga: Rest, Renew, and Restore

Congrats!!!  We all made it through our very rigorous weight week, and “sliding plank” challenge!!! This week it is time to practice the three “R’s” of Yoga: Rest, Renew, and Restore!!! Perfect timing for this continued heat wave that we are experiencing!!! Come in, cool down, and restore!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is “Samsara”, or the Winds of Change, the only true constant in life. Our mudra for this week is the hand gesture of Jnana, for evoking the energy of “Universal Knowledge and Wisdom”.

The music for your daily meditation is from James Hood’s “Imaginary”, and your meditation focus is “Just Relax”.

It is important to continue moving during this extreme heat wave, and yoga is a nice alternative to your normal outdoor activities, or a great addition to any exercise program!!!

Weighing In!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!! It is time to “Weigh In”, as we return to the use of hand weights, and emphasizing the bearing or our own body weight!!! It is a short week on the mat due to our holiday break!!! Come enjoy some NEW  ways to incorporate weight practice into your discipline!!!

Our Sanskrit focus is “NIRODHA”, or living with “control” of the mind, body, and heart. Our hand gesture focus is the mudra, “USHAS”, or connecting to the energy of “all things good”. Our meditation focus is to “release into control”, and may be practiced while enjoying the music of Deva and Miten’s “Karma Sutra”.  Deb’s Yin classes will emphasize “Spinal Bliss” this week.

The next 5-week Meditation I series will begin on Tuesday, 7/11/17. The class will meet for 5 consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $70, which includes your manual. Pleased email, call, or drop-in to pre-register (required).

Basic Classic Hatha with a Yin Cool Down!!!

Greetings from YFL!!! This is Classic Hatha Week with a YIN finale’ for cooling down!!! Our Sanskrit focus is “SANTOSHA”, or finding threads of contentment in all that we do!!! Our mudra is the classic meditation hand gesture, or ‘DHYANI’, for deep contemplation. The meditation focus is “contentment”, and our meditation music is “Bhakti Hreem”, or the path of the heart.

Come to the mat this week for strength, power, focus, and serenity. The next Meditation I 5-week series begins on Tuesday, July 11th. We will meet for 5 consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $70, and does include your manual.

Due to the 4th of July holiday, Yoga For Life will be CLOSED on the following days: 7/1-7/4/17. Classes will resume on Wednesday, July 5th. We wish you and your family a very safe and fun holiday weekend!!!

Wall Resistance Week!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!! It is blazing hot outside, so come in to the studio for a cool, refreshing practice at the WALL!!! It is time to resist, tone, strengthen, and gain power using the wall as our prop of resistance!!! Our Sanskrit focus is KARUNA, or the practice of compassion for self, and others in our community and beyond. Our hand gesture, or mudra, is the PRAN, and this promotes brain balance, grounding, vitality, and confidence. Our meditation focus is set to Ann Sweeten’s “One Moment”. This week let our focus center on “COMPASSION”.

Due to a new HVAC installation, the studio will be CLOSED this coming Saturday, 6/24/17. Normal class schedule will begin on Monday, 6/26. The new Summer Schedule has been posted, which is effectively the same as our Spring Schedule!!! The next 5-week Meditation I course will begin on July 11th, please call, email, or drop-in for registration.
