Yes, it is weight time, or time to sculpt, tone, and strengthen by bearing our own body weight, and then learning to incorporate hand weights into the asana practice. Our mudra is Akashi for dropping into inner awareness, and evoking calmness. Our Sanskrit focus is Samyama, or self -control, which leads to contentment.

YFL is CLOSED 7/3-7/6 in observance of the 4th of July. Our normal schedule will resume on Monday, 7/7/14.

Open the Heart

Greetings from YFL!!! This week’s practice will emphasize vitality, energy, and expansion. We will also salute the sun, as we just celebrated the Summer Solstice. Join Deb for an invigorating and energizing practice that will “open your heart”. The Sanskrit focus is “AUM Kakani Namaha”, which means activating love via the heart chakra. Our mudra is “Apan Vayu”, which promotes a healthy heart. The studio is closed this Saturday, as Deb and Sophie will be hosting an all day retreat at Vina de Lestonnac (6/28/14). Deb is beginning a new Meditation I series this Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. (6/24/14), and you may still sign-up. Email, phone, or drop-in to register. Less is More (Power)

Greetings from YFL!!!

This week is all about using the WALL as a prop of resistance to intensive the depth of our asana practice. The WALL creates leverage for deepening the stretch factor of the our poses.

Our Mudra is the “Pran”, which emphasizes overcoming fatigue, and improving vision.

The weekly Sanskrit focus is “SHREE” or “SRI”, which refers to one that has abundance, prosperity, and light. The attributes are shared to the world.

Our new Summer Schedule begins next Monday, and will include a new Meditation I class with Deb on Tuesday afternoon, from 2:30-3:30 p.m., and will begin on 6/24. Registration is currently open.  In addition, Meditation II will now be offered on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Thursday of each month from 7:30-8:00 p.m.

Come in and stay cool, get strengthened and toned, and de-stressed for all of your summer activities. You may also register for the day retreat to Vina de Lestonnac through 6/21. Registration for the Fall Retreat to Sedona closes on 6/25. We can’t wait to see you on the mat!!!—Namaste’, Deb

Restoration Week!!!

Greetings from YFL, and Happy Summer!!! I know, I know, the solstice isn’t until later this month, but school is out, so it feels like summer!!! With the weather warming up this is the perfect time to cool down with “restorative yoga”, and thus this week’s emphasis on restoring, renewing, and relaxing. Our Sanskrit focus is “Radha” or success and fortune, as we contemplate gratitude for all that we have. The hand gesture or mudra this week is the “Budhi”, which regulates and brings balance to our water metabolism, and also improves our sense of taste. We can’t wait to see you on the mat this week!!!

There is still time to register for the “Stay Centered 1-day Retreat” @ beautiful Vina de Lestonnac Retreat Center in the heart of our stunning Temecula wine country. Sophie will lead our Ayurvedic yoga practice, I will lead the chanting, meditation, and yoga nidra, and Jill will conduct the afternoon acrylic painting. All day is $79, morning with lunch is $54, and afternoon only is $39 (no lunch). We will begin at 9 a.m., and conclude at 4 p.m. The deadline for registration is 6/21/14.

Deb’s Annual Fall Retreat is in stunning Sedona, Arizona this year from 9/25-10/2/14. The deadline for registration is 6/25/14. Deb has a slideshow about the retreat, and informational flyers, with all the pertinent details. Stop in or call, if you have questions.

Harmony of Mind, Body, and Heart

Greetings!!!  This week at YFL the physical asana practice will emphasize “Body Harmony”, or flowing through the practice with the intent of balancing the mind, body, and the heart. It is a classic “Hatha” practice, which will help us attain this week’s Sankalpa. Our Sanskrit focus is “Brosa”, or practicing with an element of “trust”. The mudra is “Shuni” which helps us hone in on patience, discernment, and commitment. We hope you are rested from your long, holiday weekend, and ready to hit the mat!!! We can’t wait to see you!!!

Deb’s informational meeting about the Fall Retreat to Sedona is this Saturday, May 31st, from 11 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Deb will offer a brief slideshow, a flyer with all pertinent retreat info, and field any questions about the retreat. If you are interested in participating this Fall, then please try to attend this short meeting. The retreat will be 9/25-10/2/14.

Registration is on going for the Summer retreat at Vina de Lestonnac. It will be on Saturday, June 28th, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., or 9 a.m.-4 p.m., if you opt to stay for painting with Jill Roberts. Sophie and Deb will lead the yoga, meditation, chanting, and nidra for the morning session, and Jill the art portion in the afternoon. Let’s Fly!!!

Greetings!!! It is time for Wall Practice #3 @ YFL. Come learnt to fly into Warrior III balance, as we use the wall for support!!! Our Sanskrit Focus is “Samadhi” or “Pure Contemplation”, and our mudra is DharmaCharkra, for balancing our “inner” and “outer” worlds. It is going to be a fun and different week on the mat!!! We can’t wait to see you!!!

Relax into Restoration!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!! This week you will need to come armed with the three B’s, bolster, blanket, and blocks!!! We will practice renewing, restoring, and relaxing on the mat throughout the week of 5/12-5/17/14. The practice is relaxing, and yet very deep. Our Sanskrit focus is “BIJ”, or seed sound, of which there are many. We will focus on “SAT NAM”, “I am that”. Our mudra is the “Venus”, which will help to promote glandular balance.

The Sedona Fall Retreat informational meeting will be on 5/31/14 @ 11 a.m. Deb will provide a very short slideshow, and all the details about attending. Please plan to attend this meeting, if you have any interest in participating. The retreat will be 9/25-10/2/14.

The full day summer retreat at Vina de Lestonnac will be on 6/28, and will be co-hosted by Deb and Sophie. The retreat will include a morning of Ayurvedic asana practice, chanting, meditation, yoga nidra, and lunch. The afternoon will be filled with creativity, as Jill Roberts will guide us through creating an acrylic masterpiece, which we will take home with us!!! Sign-ups begin this week!!!

“Weight” a Minute!!!

Good morning Yogis and Yoginis!!! Another new month is upon us, which means it is time to bear not only our body weight, but hand weights with our yoga asana practice this week!!! Come to the mat, and be prepared to sculpt, tone, and strengthen as we “weight” for 75 minutes!!! Our Sanskrit focus is “AUM SATYAM”: Expressing our pure awareness into the world. Our mudra is “VARUNA”, which is the hand gesture for clearing our respiratory system.

Deb will be hosting an informational meeting about the Fall Retreat to Sedona on Saturday, May 31st, from 11-11:30 a.m. All the details about transportation, lodging, activities, yoga, meditation, and costs will be discussed. Hand outs will be available, and we will watch a 2-minute slideshow prepared by Deb on the beautiful vistas of Sedona and the Grand Canyon. If you are considering attending this retreat, please try to attend this meeting.

Deb and Sophie will be hosting a summer retreat at the beautiful Vina de Lestonnac retreat center located in the middle of Temecula’s beautiful wine country. From 9-11 a.m. Sophie will guide us through a relaxing Ayurvedic asana practice that will focus on staying centered. At 11 a.m. Deb will conduct an hour of chanting, Yoga Nidra, and meditation. We will break for lunch at noon, and then you will have the option of attending an afternoon session of acrylic art painting with Jill Roberts. She will guide us step by step through the painting of butterflies. You will leave with your very own masterpiece. photo-469  Greetings!!! I have just returned from the stunning and breathtaking Sedona and Grand Canyon. I have gathered great information for planning our Fall YFL retreat, and will be hosting an organizational meeting in May. If you are interested in attending this spectacular event plan to attend if at all possible. I will post a date for this meeting next week, and I will provide all the trip details along with a short slideshow of the area.

This week at YFL we will “OPEN THE HEART” with a variety of backbends during our physical practice on the mat. Our Sanskrit focus is actually a silent mantra for opening our hearts to compassion for ourselves and all beings: AUM KAKANI NAMAHA. The weekly mudra is APAN VAYU, which is the hand gesture for maintaining a healthy heart. See you on the mat this week, and hopefully in Sedona this Fall!!!

Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!!

This week’s practice will be emphasizing “Less is More” (Power), which involves taking fewer poses, at a slower pace, and into a deeper level of expression. This will increase our stamina, power, and strength. We will also be using the “wall” as a prop. In Yin, we will be taking a practice that promotes prana flow throughout the nadis of the entire body system. Our mudra is “Pran”, which activates the “Root Chakra” increasing vitality, improving vision, and reducing nervousness. Our Sanskrit focus is “Maitri”, “To perfect friendliness to one and all. One of the highest virtues of Yoga. We can’t wait to see you on the mat!!!

This week at YFL our practice is all about the fact that “The Joy is in the Journey”!!! Learning to practice with joy, devotion, and “Lila” (playfulness). Our Sanskrit focus is “Bhakti”, which means devotion and love. Our mudra is “Buddhi”, which involves touching the little finger tip to the thumb tip on each hand, while extending the remaining fingers. This mudra is to enhance and improve our skills of communication. Sophie’s healthy back workshop will be on May 3rd from 2-3:30 p.m. @ a cost of $20, and Deb’s next Meditation I series will begin on Tuesday, May 6th @ a cost of $70. photo-454  This week is all about restoration, or coming to the mat to relax, renew, and recharge. Our Sanskrit focus is one of my favorite: AUM SHANTI, or the Cosmic Yes to Peace!!! Our mudra is called the “Realization”, and makes us aware of ourselves first of all, and then the realization that we are connected to everyone and everything. A single word term for what this mudra provides is the energy of “Unity”. The Yoga-Hike to Santa Rosa plateau is this Friday, April 11th, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and Sophie will be offering a Healthy Back workshop on May 3rd, from 2-3:30 p.m. @ a cost of $20. Greetings Yogis and Yoginis!!!  Watch for the April newsletter on your email desk tomorrow around 10:00 a.m., no foolin’!!!  This week at YFL we will be focusing on weight-bearing through traditional hatha yoga postures, and the use of hand weights. Our emphasis will be on sculpting, toning, and strengthening. This week’s Sanskrit focus is “Nabhi”, which is our navel center, and the seat of our physical well-being. Greetings and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!  Following two weeks of very strong practices this week will entail ushering in the Vernal Equinox with Mandala Salutations and Restoration!!! Our Sanskrit focus is “Mandala”, which means circle, connection, and/or community. Our mudra is the “Yoga Mudra”, or a crossed legged seated fold, and this full body mudra signifies unity.
